These Terms of Use govern your use of the Cai Comments app and this website (caicomments.com), where you create an account, obtain a licence, and download the app.

Using the Cai Comments app

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing or using Cai Comments ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Licence to Use

Cai Comments grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App and its bundled on-device AI model for the purpose of recording student notes and generating report comments. You may not resell, redistribute, or reverse-engineer the App.

3. Offline, Local-First Operation

The App is designed to run entirely on your device. It requires no account and, in its default configuration, makes no network connection. You are responsible for keeping your device and any backups secure.

4. Teacher Responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy and lawful use of the information you enter, for obtaining any consent your school or jurisdiction requires before recording information about students, and for reviewing every generated comment before sharing it.

5. AI-Generated Comments

Comments and answers are produced by an automated language model and may contain mistakes, omissions, or misinterpretations. They are drafting aids only and are not a substitute for your professional judgement. Always check a comment before it is sent to a parent or placed in an official record.

6. Optional Connected AI

If you choose to connect an online AI provider, your use of that provider is also governed by that provider's own terms, and data you send to it leaves your device. Connecting an online provider is entirely optional and off by default.

7. Intellectual Property

The App, its design, and its name remain the property of their respective owners. The notes, comments, and other content you create belong to you.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the App will be error-free or uninterrupted.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the App. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

Your account & the website

11. Account, purchase & licence delivery

To buy, download, and license Cai Comments, you create an account on this website and place an order. We verify your email, and once your order is approved we deliver your download and a licence. Activating the app requires a one-time internet connection to validate your licence; after that, the app runs offline. Your licence is for your own use on the number of devices permitted by your account, and you can release and move a device seat from your account at any time. You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep your sign-in credentials secure.
